Sveza announces the acquisition of Kama Pulp and Paper Mill
Russia’s leading forest industry company and the world’s largest manufacturer of birch plywood, Sveza buys the assets of Kama Pulp and Paper Mill and enters the pulp and paper industry as part of the strategy to diversify its product portfolio.
Sveza and Kama have signed an asset purchase agreement. The transaction is pending the approval of the Russian Federal Anti-Monopoly Service. The details of the acquisition are not disclosed.
Located in Krasnokamsk, Perm Region, Kama Pulp and Paper Mill is one of the most modern pulp and paper mills in Russia. Kama uses modern equipment and technology to produce high-quality products to global quality standards and is the country’s only producer of lightweight coated paper (LWC) and coated folding boxboard (FBB).
According to Sveza-Les’ CEO Anatoly Frishman, Sveza has historically pursued a policy of diversifying the product portfolio, and has long been looking into the opportunities to enter the pulp and paper market. Kama Pulp and Paper Mill adds capabilities that complement Sveza’s existing operations, while generating significant synergies.
“Kama Pulp and Paper Mill is an experienced team of highly skilled professionals, and I look forward to leveraging the combined effect of the best practices from both sides of the integration. There is a steady demand for paper and folding boxboard in the domestic and foreign markets, and we are convinced that shifting to higher added value production is the most natural development way for the Russian forest industry and the Russian pulp and paper industry in particular,” Anatoly Frishman stated.
As the major player in the birch plywood market, Sveza implements a continuous development strategy for its plywood mills, involving investments in new production equipment, development and implementation of innovations, improvement of the working conditions, and advancing health and safety at the workplace. The company will adopt the same approach for Kama Pulp and Paper Mill, thus enhancing its contribution in the development of the Russian pulp and paper industry.
