Sveza Secures Registration for AI-Powered Sheet-Material Counting App

Sveza Group has officially registered its proprietary Plycounter application with the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent). The mobile solution uses computer vision to count sheet materials in a bundle in a matter of seconds. The registration confirms the originality of the underlying algorithms and positions Sveza as a pioneer in developing advanced digital solutions for the industrial sector.

The Plycounter mobile application was designed as a practical tool for manufacturers and warehouse operators handling sheet materials. It enables highly accurate counting of sheets: to perform a count, a user simply takes a photo of a bundle with a smartphone. The built-in AI model analyzes the image automatically and calculates the number of sheets, delivering accuracy levels of up to 98–100%.

The technology was originally developed to reduce the workload associated with manual counting of plywood sheets. As development progressed, it became clear that the approach could be applied in other industries that work with sheet materials. Growing interest from sectors other than plywood manufacturing promoted Sveza to adapt the solution for metal, shaped steel, and other products, ultimately resulting in a versatile, computer-vision-based product.

“Plycounter was our entry point into building applications powered by computer vision. We’ve moved from a simple experiment to a complex engineering product that’s being adopted across different types of manufacturing. Today the technology is successfully used with wood-based panels, metals, mesh, shaped steel, and other materials. We develop specialized modules and test them in real production environments. The patent confirms the originality of our approach, and the strong interest from external customers shows that we’ve created an industrial product that truly delivers value,” said Alexander Fedorov, Head of Digital Projects at Sveza.

Pilot deployments have demonstrated the solution’s high accuracy, ease of use, and significant time savings. The application has been well received by professionals responsible for inventory tracking and control of sheet materials, supporting both production teams and companies managing large warehouse stocks.

“In the near future, we plan to expand the app’s functionality. We are already working on new features, including detection of sheets with non-standard thickness, cloud-based data export, a redesigned user interface, and tools for selecting and adjusting the area of analysis,” said Denis Dotsenko, Sveza’s software development expert.

Anastasiya Vershovskaya, Head of Business Development at Sveza SmartLine, noted that the company is also exploring the use of Plycounter technology in fixed machine-vision systems integrated into production lines. “We are also considering opportunities to apply the solution in the packaging industry,” she added.
