Sveza to start piloting the national forest inventory accounting system

Sveza is going to implement in its operations the Russian federal state information system for the forest industry complex (FGIS LK). The innovative system representing a digital twin for the country’s forest will officially launch nationwide in 2024 and will collect and send to the relevant government agencies the information on the actual condition of timber leases, as part of the national forestry digitalization initiative.

FGIS LK is a data platform driven by electronic registers and designed to provide information and analytics to government officials in charge of the forestry affairs, while allowing to eliminate paper documents and avoid wasteful duplications. The implementation of the electronic forestry register on the national scale will start with the Arkhangelsk, Moscow, and Ulyanovsk regions on August 1 and continue in the fall and winter with 60 more regions, including those where Sveza has timber leases. The remaining regions will join in the first quarter of 2024.

Starting in 2025, implementation of the FGIS LK system will be mandatory for all forest management entities and timber market actors. By then, the system will contain the entire set of data on Russia’s forest areas, including the data from the currently in place timber inventory tracking system LesEGAIS.

Sveza has always conducted business openly and transparently, and submitted forest-related reporting to the government agencies using the electronic forestry document flow system. With FGIS LK in place, the scope of e-document exchange will expand to include forest declarations, forest pathology research reports, forest development and reforestation plans, and much more.

“We are currently piloting the new system while keeping in mind that a full-scale implementation of FGIS LK will require a thorough training of all employees with the help of the developers and government agency representatives,” says Alexander Protchenko, Head of Forest Management at Sveza.

Right now, Sveza is fully ready to implement the national state timber harvesting and supply tracking system LesEGAIS.
